all or nothing

is as far as my blogging sentiments go tonight and I'm going to go with all ... for now.

We took the kids to the 20 week ultrasound on Monday because we hate everyone in my OB's office and wanted to ensure that at least a sliver of their afternoon was all misery and company loving. No, not the case at all because I love everyone in that office and the kids weren't as wall bouncy as they could've been considering that it was smack in the middle of sacred nap time.

the only thing to do in a non pediatric waiting room is blow your nose, throw away the soiled tissue, sit back down, and repeat. And so they did. 45 times in 4 minutes.

Sebastian dropped a computer mouse (not the be confused with the animal - which is why I included "computer") in the ultrasound room and said, "dammit!" and when Julia wasn't stroking my hand and asking me if I was okay (was fine 23 seconds ago, and am still fine - you sweet little projecting hypochondriac) she was telling the ultrasound tech (that scanned both boys! kind of fun) over and over and over exactly what she needed to do in the bathroom and that it was urgent and it had nothing to do with urine. It could've been worse. I think.

The baby is looking good. Definitely has a ladylike profile (right) and is growing like a weed. The awesome sonographer flipped on the 3D setting and it was neat to see ... a little creepy but ... neat.

Here is a fraction of the pictures we were given ...

stingy sonographer.

And I think I exceeded the acceptable word count limit for typing about ultrasounds - in the first half of the first sentence. We're all finished.

All of the cups in this house have a plastic toy ball or a tennis ball stuffed inside of them and I can't get any of them out. Sebastian is a man of few words but he is a man with a serious mission, "frustrate my parents at all times, even when I am sleeping." And he does. He so does.

And this is one of those weeks that will just be so wonderful when it's all over. My eyes are crispy from the gross lack of sleep (so I'm kind of loving that Julia's favorite game is slumber party where closed eyes are a serious requirement - I'm kind of not loving that she reprimands any eye opening by telling, "Chunky Bear" to get back to sleep ... we should probably rethink Theodore nicknames around here) and the kids schedules are jacked to the maximum and surprise!! I just don't handle the night floating well. C'est la most pathetic vie, Grace. I know.

the kids begged and begged and begged and begged to eat a candy cane and when they finally bit off the plastic and had a little taste? hated them and needed water e-mediately. My sympathies, smarties.

One of the perks of visiting Simon so much during these types of rotations is that Theo now consistently Pavlovs it the second we pull into the hospital parking lot and starts doing lots of limb shaking and fat smiling and looking for Simon. It's cute. And I think you'd think so too - even though you're not his former womb-home like this doter is. But I could be wrong.

bonafide crawler, finally. Maybe he'll be walking by the time the baby comes but let's not prematurely count our crazy chickens.

Ah and to top off this truly wild treat of a post let me tell you that after weeks of tireless Craigslist scouring we finally found a bed for Julia on Craigslist. Then we got it home and wondered why our house smelled like carcass. And then we realized that the former owner had clearly used the bed as a litter box for her cats. As Sebastian says in between every bite of every kind of food he consumes, "deeeee-wish-us." I'll keep you posted on further developments but please know that I am restraining myself from tossing the whole enchilada back in the cat lady's yard but I'm far too mature and lazy for that.

Okay. That'll do for now.

  1. Did the Cat Lady Seller tell you a bit too sweetly that "Urine for a treat, deary!" (I'm sorry..I can't resist such things) Also, love love LOVE that chunky red scarf you are wearing. Where can I get one, you know, in the vein of being an unabashed copy-cat? (ok, that last pun is kind of sad..one could say it is pawsitively awful...or not) :)

    1. haha. she was repainting her house and the cats were conveniently hiding so .... inconvenient and hidden truths I guess. Sort of our fault for not asking ....

and thank you! My sister gave it to me - I think it's from Express and it's a few years old. I kind of bet Old Navy or Target will have to have something similar on super sale after Christmas? I would imagine!

    2. I just tried on something similar at Gap. It was green but I think they had other colors as well. Seeing your pics here makes me wonder if it's too late to move it to the top of my Christmas wish list....

  2. Major creepy/nasty about CatWoman and her kittens. Since I'm sure you'll want to scour CL again for another diamond in the rough - look out of Berg bunk beds - if you are thinking bunk beds will be in the Camps future. They could be Bash proof. Maybe. But they are crazy expensive new so CL is the only way to go. We just got one and the girls love it.

Also pretty sure I willed my 15 month old to walk so she would be a seasoned pro before número tre arrived

    1. ooo thank you!!! I don't know if I'll ever trust Bash in a bunk bed .... ever. But maybe timid little Theo and Julia could share since Sebastian is the lightest sleeper of all time.

I hear you on the walking!! Julia wasn't walking when Sebastian was born and it was ... not fun.

  4. I would have enjoyed to have been in the waiting room with you and your young'uns. My one year old granddaughter favorite activity is trying to play in the cats litter box ;( I guess she is getting ready for summer fun at the play ground ;P

  5. Wow, lots of ultrasound pictures! I'm so jealous. My last baby (#5) didn't get any prints because the tech was inexperienced and possibly lazy and couldn't be bothered to freeze the frame for a snap. Just one, that's all I want! The doctor was amazingly unsympathetic and wouldn't even try to get something printable. Argh.

  6. I'm sure one day your boy baby will appreciate that you called his profile "ladylike" :)

  7. Bah! There are so many things stuck right now all from the hands of Ryan so I feel you.

I think your all or nothing posts are the best ones, really.

Happy baby is doing well, congrats to Theo and ewww to the bed.

  8. Cute new baby pics! Does Simon come to the ultrasound? Just wondering how the tech keeps him from "seeing" whether it's a boy Patton or a girl Patton! I am convinced to this day that my Mom knew what our first was, even though we wanted a surprise, because she's an nurse sonographer and came to the ultrasound. She kept it a secret, bless her, but I KNOW she knew....!

  9. That is so great you took the whole fam to the ultrasound. You are more brave than me. We tried one appt with Joe and the kids but he ended up outside with Joseph after less than ten min. And now I am going once a week and hiring a sitter for 2-3 hrs ($30 ea appt) which is kind of crazy. With the bed, I had that happen last summer where I bought a used double stroller for $70, got it home and it smelled like smoke, then the girl at the baby consignment store "let" me sell it back for $30 (at a $40 loss) as if It was my fault she sold me a smelly stroller. After that I only bought new for awhile because I was so annoyed but am now slowly getting back into Craig'slist and used baby stuff.

  11. If you had the time (big IF) and if I were you (another big IF) I'd round up a ton of crazy feral cats and leave them AND the bed in the lady's yard. Teach her.

BTW, please divulge where your boots are from in the candy cane picture. Gracias mucho (or something like that).

  13. At the 20 week ultrasound for my second, my oldest who was around 18 months at the time, decided to start screaming the minute the doctor came in to perform the ultrasound. She would not stop screaming at the top of her lungs. Finally, the nurse had to take her into the hallway and babysit her while the doctor finished up. Yay for nurse babysitters. I think the OB office is used to that sort of behavior from older sibs. At least I hope so!

  14. No, you just don't have enough hands to help drag that matr-ass back. I'm coming over.

  15. Also, while I was writing that last comment, Ellen peed out of her diaper all over me. Are you interested in a chair? Or leggings? Or a slightly used shirt?

  17. Try washing the bed down with hydrogen peroxide and then some vinegar. The peroxide might be able to neutralize the urine and the vinegar will remove the smell. (From someone who has had a few tempermental cats in her life!).
