coasting and cherishing and more

Valentine's Day 2014. A hit.

The big kids got two Starbursts leftover from when Simon was on nights and Theo got the usual amount of attention (which wasn't enough apparently). One of these years I'll up my holiday game. I think it was the second year we were married and I was trying to sew Simon some sort of cutesy Valentine out of fabric and before I was even finished he got a glimpse of the masterpiece and tentatively asked if I was making him a loincloth.

So .... I guess I'm still a little gun shy when it comes to Valentine's but excuses no more. 2015 will be bursting with hearty sugar. Get it? Good.

Anyway ... I'm just checking in from the land of the stomach bug? Third trimester morning/afternoon/evening sickness? I don't know but I'm hoping for the latter because if the kids catch the plague while Simon is at work for his trillion hour weekend shift .... we'll survive but we won't like it. I'm definitely in coast mode .... abundant Netflix, whateveryouwant for whatevermeal, and some weird YouTubes of English nursery rhymes with a talking hand that Julia thinks are just hysterical. I recently read something about the importance of cherishing every moment with your kids and it made me feel guilty because this weekend is not exactly brimming with cherish but .... blah. No buts. More cherish, Grace. More freaking cherish.

A few things ...

Some kindhearts nominated el Camp for one of the Apartment Therapy Homies Awards and I think my reading comprehension leads me to believe that the top 5 nominees will be whisked off to the next round so if you're in a super generous mood and want to add to our nomination count ... we'd love you. Or you really should just pop over to find some new stellar blogs to read ... the list is really great thus far (ha - like this post from this blog).

I think my first generation iPod finally bit it for good or at least it's on strike and won't let me load any new beats so I'm guessing it's about to die after living a long and fulfilling life of walk-run-walk-walk-walking with me. So after 40 minutes of Googling how to fix it and coming up frustrated and fruitless I loaded two songs (this one and this one) on my phone and took the kids on a walk the other day listening to the songs over and over and over. It was actually really nice and I hope the weather takes another breather from hating humans sometime soon. Any songs you're loving that are workoutproppriate? Or any at all. Theo should probably learn to dance to something other than Katy Perry one of these days ... but he does love a good set of fast-paced squats to the tune of Katy.

Two medium ad spots just opened up ... if you and your blog/shop/anythingatall are interested. We won't bite.

There are TONS of awesome baby product recommendations in the comments of Thursday's post but far and away the big winner was the the Nosefrida . I trust you but I might just have Simon give that one the inaugural run when the time comes.

What else what else??

Oh - you know me and my allegiance to ThredUp is a little out of hand .... mostly for kids clothing (I've been stalking and stalking for a maternity coat but ... nada) and if you use this referral link you'll get $15 off your first order until February 28th. I've been finding lots of summer shorts (as opposed to those you wear in the winter) for the boys for $3.99 lately SO lets hope and pray Sebastian doesn't grow 6 inches taller before June.

Okay ... you have more pressing things to do, don't I know it. I might scamper off and test the waters with a whiff of a saltine. I won't report back ... don't worry.

xo - just for kicks.

  2. Someone once told me to cherish your children, not necessarily every moment ... while I'm sure there will be warm fuzzies when we look back on these times, some of these moments kinda suck. It helps to not feel guilty about them, heh!

  3. Ginger Honey Brew!! I just resurrected from el flunino! Water + Ginger Root + Honey. Put it in a pot. Simmer it. Simmer it real good. Keeps things from getting projectile.

  4. I am with you on the lack thereof valentines..but its all about the love in my heart right? right. Third trimester sickness is the stuff nightmares stem from...so I will second the suggestion of ginger, anything with ginger. I think I was ___ close to just eating raw ginger at some point. But it did help. I hope you find some relief! The current cartoons playing in my house are in russian...my kids can't understand a word, but they think is funny, so I am hoping they get some bilingual goodness from it :)

  5. Valentine's topped out at a chocolate heart for all the children. And those were eaten before 8am, so winning? Probably not. Just a heads up, the referral link for ThredUp won't open for me. It could be my browser though. Or my old computer on its last leg. All Kellerman summer clothing will be coming through that beautiful, beautiful site.

  7. I wrote a blog post a while back about not cherishing every moment...I mean, come on...talk about realistic expectations! http://supermommyornot.blogspot.com/2013/02/treasure-every-moment.html

  8. Cherish, punish, cherish, time-out, cherish, put to bed. Repeat...:) Hope you feel better!

  9. I am a GIANT mommy-fail when it comes to holidays for the kids. Except for Christmas. But I ABHOR decorating of any kind and I hate the actual card valentine's with a passion. So we marked Valentine's Day with a sure fire direct path to my boys' hearts (big and small) - food. Homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and pizza for dinner. Mom for the win. I am equally grinchy about Easter - one basket for the family rather than anything individual - enough with the candy already.

  10. So…to be clear…you did NOT make Simon a loincloth? Seems like it could have been a very legit present for V-day...

  11. My 3 yr old loves watching people make Play Doh on YouTube because I'm one of those uncool moms who won't stand for all the teeny tiny dried up Play Doh dots. Play Doh is a treat for when babysitters come....

  12. Voted! And as a veteran with both the Nosefrida and the Baby Comfynose, I say go with the Comfynose. You can sit on a two year old and suck their nose, too and no boogers get anywhere near going up the tube. That was of utmost importance to me.

  13. So very sorry you're not feeling up to par my friend. Coasting is perfectly acceptable when one is feeling semi-par let alone not up to par. So rest when you can use that Netflix. Make it work for you.
    Hugs from a snowy VA!!

  14. I bought J a red and pink sprinkle donut for v-day and he refused to eat it...only wanted his grapes. Still not sure where this kid came from haha. Either way, his in-utero sister enjoyed since I ate the whole thing.

Hoping you are feeling better soon, too! I think the whole screen time before age 2 warnings are fake, sooooo rest up and more nursery rhymes for the kids ;)

  15. Uggh I need a maternity coat too. I'm wearing my mother-in-laws regular coat for now but it's not gonna zip too much longer and it's still averaging 0-10 here.

Thanks for the baby registry ideas! I added a couple to ours :) Still have no idea what I'm doing lol.

  17. I literally went to Target last night and bought a nosefrida! I made fun of people for considering it, was totally grossed out by it, and I swore I'd never buy one. Desperate times call for desperate measures. My 7 months old is in a snotty season of cutting his four top teeth at the same time. I'm AMAZED at the results! That thing is a miracle worker! Sucking snot is gross no matter how you go about it, but that thing does a fantastic job! I'll buy them as baby gifts from here on out! It's that amazing! Add it to your Target list for sure! :)

I don't know if it works for working out, but it definitely fits in the 'any at all' category(:

  21. I believe I MAY still have a maternity coat sitting in my closet from two years ago, barely worn, if you would like to have it. ;) The only thing is, I think it would be HUGE on you!! I'm short and I got faaaaat during my pregnancies, lol! But, if you or someone you know can tailor it, then you can have it. Just say the magic word (gimme!) Just kidding. But seriously, if you want it, email me at lizluscomb@live.com
    It's black pea coat style.

  22. Really hope you feel better soon and whatever it is does not get passed on! I'm pretty sure I'm going to straight up die every time I get any sort of stomach anything (yep, I'm real tough and stoic that way), so I have lots of sympathy whenever it happens, and then I always think of moms when I feel that way because I can't even imagine feeling like that AND keeping small humans alive at the same time.
