thank you!

19 January 2017

Simon and I were truly blown away by how kind and generous everyone was with their excitement over the new baby - THANK YOU!! We feel so fortunate.

Have you ever seen a more crystal clear ultrasound ever? Neither have I. This was at eight weeks and if you look really close you can totally see him/her waving/winking/other crazy trick. Joke, joke.

I guess I just feel like people have been losing sleep over wanting to know intricate details about the baby and the pregnancy thus far? So, I'm here to deliver. And quit it with the puns.

I could simple say I'm 18 weeks along but I'll say that I'll be 19 weeks on Saturday because that makes me feel better about how pregnant I feel (not a complaint, at all). It was a rough first trimester BUT I was so grateful to feel so sick because I had bleeding identical (if not more worrisome) to my miscarriage this summer and assumed I was having another one since I never even so much as spotted with the other fives kids but the bleeding eventually stopped and everything has checked out great since then. Unlike Bosco, this baby moves nonstop (I'm pretty sure I had an anterior placenta with him) which brings me great peace of mind.

Back in October Simon and I gone out for dinner and ice cream sans kids and I forgot my purse at the ice cream place so Simon ran back to get it after we came home and paid the sitter. While he was gone I realized that despite feeling like a raging + crying pms-y b I was technically "late" which definitely didn't mean anything but I took a test on a whim anyway and it was immediately positive. Simon walked in the door and I burst into tears and he was SO confused about what I was so upset about. I wasn't upset but really happy and in disbelief because I feel like I generally have a decent gauge on early pregnancy symptoms (apparently not). We waited to tell the kids until recently at which point Julia told the whole world (maybe she even told you) and Sebastian keeps forgetting and acting surprised all over again, "wait - you're having a baby?!" -- yep.

I'm due June 17th and Bosco's birthday is June 15th (he was due the 27th - I'm pretty sure) so we'll see if they share a birthday. I don't imagine it would be super fun to share a birthday with a sibling but maybe it would! I'm not sure. Sebastian is the closest I ever got to my due date at two days prior so it's definitely a possibility!

I'm so excited that Kate has offered to do a name consultation because Simon and I find ourselves looping back to the kids middle names wondering if we could double dip - we got nothin'. Well, we have a few ideas but nothing concrete at all and we don't have super similar name taste which always make the discussions interesting.

Yikes this is long. My anatomy scan is next week but we'll find out if the baby is a he or she when they are born - although I have to admit I'm kind of tempted this time around. Of course it would be fun to have another girl but I also love the idea of having a little buddy for Bosco (of course he could have a girl buddy, I'm just saying!) so we are honestly very indifferent on that front.

I'm always surprised how many people ask if Simon is my doctor or if he delivers our kids and the answer is no and no. I know some women like their husbands to deliver the babies but I am not one of them :)

I'm pretty much over the super sick hump aside from the occasional morning which is really nice and I don't take that for granted at all. It helps to exercise (holler at my steps) and not eat crap which is forever easier said than done.

Alright, this is reading like a robot wrote it but I'm trying to beat the nap time/school pick up crunch without being the last parent to pick up their kids (so guilty, so often) so - that's all.

No it's not.

I'll begin providing daily bump documentation very soon. Right now I've got a face full of the most stubborn acne (prime sign of a girl for me BUT I think I had some with Bosco too, I think) to show for my gestation and about three hours of searching for my boxes of maternity clothes under my belt (still no luck - WHYWHYWHY) so I'd say it's all been very smooth sailing indeed.

Thank you again!!!!

  1. congratulations! my husband is a pediatrician (so i feel some sort of kinship with you!) and people always ask if he will be our baby's pediatrician. he will not be but i WILL use him to answer all of my mom-questions when we have our first this spring. also, congrats to your husband on his boards. i know how stressful that must have been!

  3. This seriously makes your steps that much more impressive. A friend recently asked me how I kill my steps so thoroughly each week and I was like, "What on earth are you talking about?" I didn't realize mine were decent because you're always so far ahead of me! You're superwoman.

  4. Worst acne I've ever had - teenage years included - this time around, and it's a girl. Also more emotional than all three previous pregnancies combined. I think girl for you, and so excited for your adorable fam!

  5. Congratulations!!!! I am due on June 16th so pretty much the same! Except this is only my third. ;-) I always feel like, by Wednesday, I'm saying "Well I'll be ____ weeks this Friday" instead of just the simple answer of "18 weeks." Looking forward to your pregnancy updates! :)

  6. Congrats!! I'm due on June 18th with my 3rd. Gotta admit, when I first saw your announcement, I thought to myself "she is probably one of those people that doesn't get sick at all during pregnancy" because otherwise, HOW do you take care of 5 little people?? I was SO sick for the first few months and pretty much neglected my other 2 kids so I could rest. And the fact that you did Whole 30.....I pretty much ate bagels for 3 months. But, feeling better now. All this to say, congrats!!

  8. Congratulations! This is so exciting. And I can say that you probably don't want your kids to share a birthday. My sister's birthday is one day before mine and I am still bitter about it almost 10 years later haha. But maybe that just shows how immature I am...

  11. My kids' birthdays are two days apart; this May they'll celebrate 3 and 1 together with a puppy party. I figure I can get away with joint birthday parties at least for the next couple of years, after which I think my son might grow tired of choosing gender-neutral party themes to share with his sister. Congrats to you and your sweet family!

  12. My dad and my aunt have the same birthday but two years apart. They have historically forgotten to say happy birthday to each other so every year it's like this competition of who remembers first! Haha

  13. I'm just over the moon for you guys! Also, since you always beat me in steps, I was secretly hoping that the next time you got pregnant I would be able to win for a while but nope! Impressive!

  16. Another blogging mom named her daughter Avila. I have always thought that was such a beautiful and unusual name for a girl. I would put Anne (with an E if you please)as the middle name, Avila Anne. Congratulations BTW :)

  17. YAYYYY Grace!!! We are basically the exact same pregnant-ness...I'm 19 weeks today. Sending you lots of love!

  18. As a twin, even though I love her dearly (and she reads your blog, too, so Hi Stephanie!) sharing your birthday is the pits as a kid. But, it's kind of nice as an adult not living with my sister, at least I know she'll never forget my birthday :)

  19. My brother and I are two years and two days apart in August, same for my older brother and sister in September. As kids my mom and dad celebrated both birthdays on one of the days in between and we for some reason just LOVED this lol I have super fond memories of sitting beside my brother, each of us with a cake, celebrating together. Good stuff- Bosco and baby #7 will love it, i'm sure :)

  20. congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm a huge fan of the name website Nameberry. They have a "name hunter" feature where you can put in names you like and it will suggest similar names. You can also search names based on criteria that is important to you, like saints names, nickname options, etc. I'm so glad that you shared an update and hope to hear more as your pregnancy progresses.

  22. Such wonderful news! I had an anterior placenta with our last baby and it had me so worried I had the DR running extra tests on me. Yay for feeling baby moving! Hope the rest of the pregnancy is smooth sailing.

  26. I think you can totally double dip in middle names. Want to know why? Here are the Hasselhof children:

    Franziska Viktoria (yours truly)
    Viktoria Maximiliane
    Maximilian Alexander
    ....Karoline

Karoline was supposed to be Alexandria but they changed it last minute and broke the cycle. I KNOW, I'M PISSED TOO. She should have been named Alexandria Franziska AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT.

  27. Francesca Inez Patton, nickname Chess. Starts with an F sound like Phoebe, ends in an A sound like Julia, it's Italian like Bosco and has a middle syllable nickname like Sebastian. Boom, done ; )

  28. So I have been reading for probably years now and I always say "I should remember that for when I am pregnant". Now I am pregnant with my first and I can't remember anything you've recommended or suggested. I've looked back at your hospital bag lists and love them. But where do you get your crib bedding, nursery décor, maternity clothes, other baby/mom essentials? :D

  29. I had the most stubborn acne when I was pregnant with my daughter as well. A friend sent me the Belli products and my pizza-face cleared right up! https://www.amazon.com/Belli-Anti-Blemish-Facial-Wash-Dermatologist/dp/B00HHGPKZK/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485191450&sr=8-3&keywords=belli

  30. Ahhhh congratulations! I've been reading since you had Phoebe and now you have 2 more! (I totally read back on the archives when I found your blog btw)

  31. Congrats! I'm due June 23rd(ish) with number #3 and we are finding out the sex once baby arrives but we have debated finding out. We have a second anatomy scan because baby was too busy for the tech to get good images but I think we will wait.

I too have had the worst pregnancy acne and I'm curious if based on the old wives tale if that means another girl for us. Who knows!
