Friday the 13th

13 January 2017

1. I keep thinking his shoe his untied but then I remember - velcro 4ever. Also, I gave the three boys haircuts last night (this was precut) and Bosco didn't even seem to notice that I was cutting his hair while Sebastian and Theo kept up the traditional, "are you amputating our ears?" shrieks and protests charade. Fiesta forever.

2. I used Framebridge (not sponsored - although I know they've worked with bloggers in the past!) to send a few Christmas gifts this year and just had to say how pleased I was with their products and delivery (handwritten notes!). The price felt fair considering how convenient it was compared to the alternative. I know there are other online framing services out there so let me know if you've had a good experience with others!!

3. Alright, I bit the Kate Morton bullet and I went with one of her earlier books and um, it's dragging. I normally love getting in bed at night to read but find myself looking for other distractions (face mask! make a dent in the laundry folding! etc!) instead. Maybe I'll pick up one of her more recent books and go from there? Or maybe I can just grow up and power through. Also, Erin's book came in the mail this week (I pre-ordered it in May - I've waited long enough!) and I have to admit that she's been my guilty nap time pleasure and that isn't helping matters either.

4. Needless to say this week's episode of the Bachelor was a huge disappointment for a whole slew of reasons (the least of which was - it's TOO early for "to be continued" episodes - ABC - too early!) Luckily, Ashley and Sharleen saved the recap day but I've got high hopes for this coming week to make up for last week's train wreck. It was interesting hearing Jade's take on Liz on one of my favorite podcasts. I really hope that don't drag that storyline out this week but they probably will, won't they?

5. In the same vein, Brissa did her first Bach Bash on YouTube and I can only hope and pray she'll continue. She did say it was weekly so I think the odds are in my favor. Also! Julie is doing an impressive and phenomenal 30 day New Year: Best You! series. It is well worth your time and she's so kind to put it on for FREE!

6. On the sale front ... Loft's 60% off clearance (and 40% off everything else) is still going strong and they added a bunch of new styles. Almost makes me wish it stayed cold here for an extended period of time -- almost!! The sizes are super limited but I love this funnel neck coat and on the other end of the spectrum - they have one of the cutest and most inexpensive collections of sunglasses around.

7. Alright, now that Simon is finished with his oral boards (party emojis GALORE) I'm going to see if I can talk him into a little Poldark or The Crown action. Wish me luck.

Happy Freakin' Weekend.

  1. Try the secret keeper by Kate Morton. Best one of hers. I still think about how well she crafted the story!

  2. The Crown is good, but you've got to watch Reign next. 10x better. Maybe because there is more drama/scandal with bits of historical accuracy ...

  3. Disclaimer: I've only just begun.... But both of my sisters are reading the Outlander books, and love them! I broke my cardinal rule and got this book with ROMANCE on the spine label. Evidently it's to be on a screen somewhere soon. They are hooked and I hope to be, too. It's one of those thick books that will last awhile! If I weren't lying in bed in the dark next to my sleeping husband, I'd tell you the author and how many pages.

  4. Oh, stick with Kate Morton!! Which one are you reading? I've read I think her first 3, and what she does with the last 150 or so pages of every book is just incredible.

  5. I have thought exactly the same thing about every Kate Morton book I've read. The beginning feels so slow, like it takes forever to actually figure out which character is which. But in all of those books, after almost giving up, the story suddenly picks up and I read the last half basically in one sitting. Hang in there!

  6. I really liked The Secret Keeper. I struggled with her most recent one though.

  7. Couple of things I wanted to share. I think I started reading your blog right before you had Theo, and I had two kids. We have adopted 3 from foster care, and have has as many as 6 kids 7 and under in our house. We just found out today that we are going to get to adopt our daughters' newborn brother, (we are over the moon excited), plus we have our son's toddler sister living with us, so altogether we have five kids ages 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4! Your blog gives me hope, because now I know I can manage the crazy without going out of my mind, and I'm thankful for your presence on the Internet!

Secondly, you mentioned a few weeks ago (blog? Insta? I dunno) again about your triple jogger. I started searching for a used one again, since our newest girl, age 2, is hefty hefty hefty and slower than molasses. I was getting discouraged, but someone posted one on Facebook, and I drove a full hour with the kids to pick it up! Thank you for posting about your regular walks, or I woulda been stuck with our sit and stand... Ugh!

  9. thanks for the Framebridge recommendation. I uploaded a picture and asked for designer help in choosing the frame. I had several good options and now have another task off my list.

  10. I doubt you need another Bachelor recap to read, but I read Ashley and Sharleen too, and I also really love this one: http://sheaffertoldmeto.com/category/bachelor/

  12. My first Kate Morton was The Forgotten Garden and I remember a slightly slow beginning and then I was sucked in. It is still my favorite of hers. I could not get into The House at Riverton, and I was liking The Lake House, but I was pregnant while reading that and had to stop because hormones + irrational fears of my children disappearing = no bueno. Anyway, I think you should still give her a go! I think once you get into the story you'll change your mind!

  13. The Secret Keeper is very good. It can drag a bit, but the ending is well worth it!

  14. I'm a Kate Morton fan. I wouldn't go with the Lake House. That was probably my least favorite of them. I'm not sure which one you're on, but for my money The Secret Keeper was by far my favorite. It was also the first one I read. I think they typically start somewhat slow and then the next thing you know, you're knee deep in the characters and mystery and don't want to get out!

  15. I absolutely love Kate Morton and have read them all several times, I think the best books are ones you read over and over and find new things each time. That said, my favorite is The Distant Hours followed by The Forgotton Garden and The House at Riverton. These are not easy beach reads so you have to like that type of book and be in the frame of mind for it. I hid from my family on Christmas Day seven years ago to finish The Forgotten Garden! The character development and slow starts are well worth it so don't give up!
