drugstore addict

This was a sweet scene recreated shortly after with Bosco playing the role of Phoebe and Phoebe acting as Julia. I'll let your minder wander around the fun that was that aftermath.

Motherhood is a highway.

Anyway, as stated many times before - I'm not a beauty/makeup/anything expert but that doesn't stop me from reading all the reviews and putting said reviews to the test on occasion. I've started taking my skincare more seriously in the past few years but I just cant quit you, drugstore makeup.

A few recent standouts ...

1. Maybelline Brow Drama - I know everyone seems to love the Anastasia Brow Whiz and maybe I should hop on that train but I have incredibly light eyebrows and I'm scared of looking like I took a sharpie to my forehead if I do anything too drastic. This stuff is light but at least brings my brows to life (I don't think they'll ever be on fleek) and doesn't melt off in the humidity. I don't wear it daily so I think it should last me for quite some time.

2. NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer - I've read lots of glowing reviews of NYX products so picked this up recently and really like it. It's not something I wear daily but when I do wear it it doesn't leave my lashes looking or feeling crunchy (pet peeve) and now that I'm poking around other primer reviews it looks like this one got better reviews for half the price. Nice job, Grace.

3. Vaseline Lip Therapy - Rosy Lips - I know lots of bloggers reviewed this stuff and seemed to love it so - I tried it. It reminds me of a product I toted around in my high school backpack that I loved back then and I love this stuff now. Just a hint of color blah blah. I just have to be careful because if Phoebe got her paws on this -- game/life over.

4. Essie Gel Setter - I've tried a few different gel top coats and this one has gone the longest sans chips and isn't difficult to get off.

5. Sally Hansen - Totemly yours - okay this shade is virtually identical to OPI's Dulce De Leche that I blogged about a few weeks ago (this one might be just slightly less pink? just slightly!) but I just love Sally Hansen polish more than OPI. I don't know why - it goes on thicker and dries faster or something. But, they are both my favorite nude polishes.

Any drug store funions you've picked up lately? I'm ALL eyes.

  1. I don't have any recommendations (sorry!)... But I'm wondering where that print is from?! So pretty!

  2. Completely can't live with drugstore makeup. Recent winners include neutrogena moisture smooth lip color and that Essie top coat, for sure.

  3. So I've heard that maybelline's define-a-brow pen is a dupe for Anastasia Brow Wiz... I really like the brow wiz (and its not too intense, its all about how much you apply) so while I can't vouch for the define-a-brow, I will be trying it.
And my one true drugstore love is definitely the l'oreal infallible matte foundation. Its not an everyday product for me, but it's what I break out for all long days or fancy occasions :) its really good.

  4. I've been scared of eyebrow pencils all my life, but usually had thick brows anyways until I had babies. Now that they're so much more sparse (thanks hormones!) I have become best friends with L'Oreal Paris Cosmetics Stylist Definer Brow Liner. It's a drugstore dupe for the Anastasia brow whiz and is MAGICAL! What makes it look so natural is the blending brush. You just lightly outline or fill in (mimic your brow hair with small, light strokes), and then brush it so it looks like you have no makeup on, just fabulous brows! Haha I sound like a sales person. :p Seriously one of my fav drugstore finds though! I get mine on Amazon.

  5. I LOVE a good drugstore find! Totally agree on the Essie gel top. I am also loving the Maybelline Master Conceal concealer! I am on the hunt for a Brow Wiz dupe, so far no luck. But that doesn't stop me from trying.

  7. So many favs:
    -Physicians Formula Powder Palette blush
-Physicians Formula Powder Palette multi colored pressed powder - I've tried a million, but keep coming back to this one (Stop trying, Lauren). Evens out my skin tone, is very light, and doesn't make me look chalky or pasty.
-Pixi Concealing Concentrate- my favorite, favorite thing ever. I use it as an under-eye concealer to hide, you know, being a mom. It is legitimately amazing how well it works.
-Burts Bee's Tinted lip balm in Rose.
-L'Oreal Lineur Intense Liquid Eyeliner. It's a special occasion thing, but it's still the best and easiest I've found.

    Thanks for your recommendations too!

  8. I love some good drugstore finds. I especially love that you can return used products to cvs if you save your receipt! Gotta return a crummy eyebrow pencil....

  9. I have extremely light eyebrows too! I use the Sonia Kashuk brow pencil in taupe (it really does go on lighter than it appears) and love it! It goes on super easily and without looking like a Sharpie if you're ever in need of a new brow product. It's at Target, too, so pretty accessible!

  10. I am super new to gel nails but determined to finally start wearing polish frequently! So do you wear typical nail polish underneath? Or gel stuff underneath or wear it by itself?

    1. you definitely don't need a base coat but I like Zoya's -- http://amzn.to/2ctWGO2 -- I put the non-toxic polish on before loading up with chemicals ha.

  11. Thanks for the shout out to drug store makeup!! I get so frustrated by all the reviews of high-end stuff that I can't afford. Like I'm ever gonna buy a $75 palette no matter how great it is, lol!! So, keep it coming! I love the CoverGirl "The Super Sizer" mascara. The wand is a little weird at first, but it totally amps up my lashes. My fave under eye concealer is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser. It has a sponge applicator on top which I was skeptical about but it works great and doesn't crease on my aging under eye area. Also love the Maybelline Color Tatoo 24 hr matte eyeshadow in Leather. I use it like a primer and then use my drug store palette on top of it. I have a Loreal one that is a dupe of the much loved Urban Decay. I like it although I've not used the UD for comparison. I do get a little fallout upon application of some of the shadows but I just brush it off. I also love EmilyNoel83 of Beauty Broadcast. She mostly does YouTube Videos and doesn't keep up with her blog quite as much. She used to be a news anchor so her voice isn't annoying, lol!! She also does Emily Awards in all makeup categories every January, both high-end and drug store winners. Her winners have never failed me. I watch her videos while folding laundry. I watch Kate from The Small Things too :) I got addicted to watching beauty videos while nursing my 4th baby in the middle of the night. Good think I couldn't get out of the house much or I would have blown all our money on makeup!!

  12. Well I didn't even know that lash primer was a thing so ummm I guess I'm not going to call myself a beauty blogger anytime soon. But I'm so glad that I am now enlightened because I can't wait to find an excuse to go to Target so I can get some, so thank you! And I'm with you on the Sally Hansen over OPI polish but if I want to go even cheaper, I actually love Wet n Wild MegaLast... the bottle looks like Sally Hansen and the brush is thick and I don't know if it stays on as well as more expensive polishes, but it's definitely better than others in it's super-cheap price range.

  13. So, I just picked up Carol's Daughter shampoo from CVS Friday. I'm PRETTY sure it's made for ethnic hair but, I had no idea - I just saw it in the "sulfate free" section (not that I was particularly looking for sulfate free) and thought - what the heck. My poor (over-processed) hair was just feeling so "ugh" lately. Let me tell you, this stuff smells delicious and my hair is so silky and smooth! Yay!
