23 January 2015

Like Sir Mix-a-lot.
But not.
I know, the struggle is obvious today.

Anyway.

Yay. It's the freakin weekend. Which just means Simon's hours are longer than the weekdays but ... c'est la woe-is-me. I just quadruple checked his schedule and he has the next two!!!! weekends off (where my party emoji at?) so we'll focus on that.

Focusing.

He did have to take a test today instead of reporting to labor and delivery so he got to stay home long enough to enjoy breakfast with our two non-verbal roosters which was super nice. I think the call weekend count for the remaining months of residency might be nearing the single digits? Maybe? I won't count yet but ... we are getting there. Chipping away ... one optimistic day at a time. Toothy smile.

Onward.

I linked to these leggings a few weeks ago in this post and some of you fine people mentioned that they were worth the splurge and so I believed you and waited until they went on sale and then promptly took the plunge ...

... and haven't taken them off since.

{also, welcome to my blogging office - desktop background found here}

Well, I have but only to turn them inside out because they are reversible. They fit true to size (do not size up) and don't ride down at all (a huge plus) and hold their shape and make the kids breakfast when your baditude flares up and is like, "didn't I just do that yesterday?!" There are a handful of styles that are 40% off right now but, no peer pressure. At all. Fun fact though! The creative director of Zella used to work at Lululemon (tidbit of trivia thanks to Shana!). Okay, I promise not to talk about my second skin again for three whole days. PROMISE.

It wouldn't be a list of links if I didn't include a little something about Costco.

So I'm going to be a fatty fat hypocrite and admit that even though I am in the process of donating all of our tangible possessions ... I'm super tempted to try this service. Some of my favorite bloggers (Kacia, Kilee, Jen, and others, I know!) have posted about it and I'm so intrigued. Enough to try? At least once. Then ... we'll go from there. And you better believe I'll be chucking a post full of mirror length selfies your way once my "fix" arrives. Gird your excitement.

The Bachelor! Duh. I almost forgot. I missed the first hour because Phoebe managed to wedge half of a Frozen snowflake sticker (thank you resident hoarder: Julia) up in her mouth. It fit in her palate perfectly and it took Simon a long time to coax it out (we were scared it would cut her because it was a puffy sticker with the razor edges or that she would swallow it) and you can throw the "my kid got a pea stuck so far up his nose that they had to do brain surgery to get it out" stories at me so I feel less terrible because she'd been refusing her bottle for a few days so I think it had been there for a spell. Anyway, I'm feeling the Whitney vibes but there's still so much producer-driven drama (why?! the show breeds its own crazy) that needs to clear the air before I can pick a clear winner. You know Ashley did not disappoint with her recap. Does she ever? Nope!

I think Phoebe might be in the process of dropping her morning nap (NoooooOoooOooooOOOOoO!!!!) so I asked the Facebook page at what age their kids pulled this bologna and the 80 comments were oh so very dismal. I'll do just about anything to get the three younger kids to nap in unison in the afternoon but I guess I was super spoiled by the older three because they didn't drop their beautiful morning siesta until around 14 months. Phoebe turned nine months today. Poor Grace. I know.

Alright. It's macaroni and cheese day in the hospital cafeteria and the kids are beside themselves with excitement (you just keep that childhood bar low, Grace + Simon) so I better start the three hour process of getting them dressed and shoed and all of that.

And because Phoebe has been hogging the blog photo spotlight ... I'll snub her with a photo of the maturer children ...

this was a fun morning.

happy weekend.
I guess.

  1. I will be legit pissed if Charlotte gives up her morning nap anytime soon.

I've been trying Stitch Fix the last 2-3 months. I've found the key is to be SUPER specific in your feedback and to create a Pinterest board to link to. The first box I didn't do that and um... there were harem pants straight from the 80s in it. Bad on so many levels.

  5. I probably already shared this story... but my middle son got a nosebleed during naptime in kindergarten. A few weeks later we noticed this horrible odor coming from his face. Took him to the pediatrician and he had shoved some of the napmat sponge up his nose and it had rotted and fused to his nose. Had to have it surgically removed... as in, general anesthesia. Parent of the year award to me and teacher of the year to his teacher (who was a family friend - my mom actually kept her kids while she was at work so she knew we weren't nuts and vice versa.

  7. Do not let her drop the nap!! I still force Evie into in 4 out of 7 mornings (at least for 45 min) and she's a ripe 13 months.

  8. My 9mo did that nap dropping thing for a bit too, but now he's back on board with it, just not as long. I've sort of determined that he sleeps about 14 hrs total of 24hrs. So if I want him to sleep longer in the afternoon, I better hope he sleeps less in the morning. Hope Phoebe keeps napping for you!

  9. wow that is so early to give up a morning nap. My oldest napped 3 times a day until around 9 months then dropped to 2 until around 20 months!! haha I could probably have pushed it longer, but then I had baby 2 and it got more difficult to keep her schedule.

  10. Not sure if Sam has dropped his morning nap or not. I do know that I put him in his room each day around 12 and tie some socks around the door handle so he stays put (can't fool him!). And I don't hear from him for a while. Napping? Who knowsssss?

  12. My little brother shoved a Tic-Tac up his nose when he was about 14mos. Yeah, it was awesome :p

  13. I remember shoving something up my nose when I was little and everyone making a huge fuss about it. It happens. I happen to have those legging, payed full price for them too, and love them!

  14. Grace, how do you get all 4 kids dressed and out the door on the daily? Any time I have to do the morning routine by myself w/ my three girls- well, it's one of the hardest things I've ever done!!

  15. My second swallowed a paperclip (when he was 2 years old-ish?) and we were *ahem* examining his potty training skills veerrry closely for about 3-4 days hoping he wouldn't need surgery to get it out. He didn't thankfully. And just the other day I was trying to nurse Louie (8 months) and he started making this gasping noise and not latching. Looked in his mouth and he had a 3/4 inch square piece of medical tape stuck in there, just trying to suffocate himself I suppose. (!) I quickly pulled it out but, really, it is going to be hard to keep him from getting a hold of more of it because he has Ptosis and I have to tape his left eyelid up so that he doesn't lose vision in that eye (where he got the tape from in the first place). Also I pulled a marble out of his mouth this morning. Mom of the year here I come!

  16. I bought the Cross-Dye leggings (in charcoal gray, they look darker in person) after that post of yours! Was a little worried about what "cross dye" really meant and looked like but they were the ones available in a dark color and in my size at the best price when I ordered. They are great---the contrast stitching is not distracting or even very noticeable at all, if anyone else is waffling. Mine look "subtler" than the photos on the site! Anyway, thanks for the tip---LOOOOOVE THEM.

  17. OK, I'm doing the Whole30, just scheduled Blue Apron for next month, ordered some Zella leggings and am now signed up for Stitch Fix. I'm becoming a Grace Groupie.

And just yesterday, while at the plant nursery I had to ask the guy giving my three-year old a small pot of flowers if he could please make sure that the plant is edible. No joke.

    2. I have an autistic toddler and a 7-month old. The theme for 2015 is Raw Efficiency.

Whole 30 has totally been worth it. Even the husband is on board. Trader Joe's Cashew Butter is my new favorite.

  18. Wearing my Zella leggings as I read this. LOVE them. Probably going to wear them to Costco in a few.

I have heard such mixed reviews of Stitch Fix. I have a friend that loves it. She is constantly posting about it and then I know a handful of people that were rather disappointed, so I am not quite ready to take the plunge.

  19. I lost track of my 10 month old (for just a sec, I swear!) and when I didn't find him splish splashing in the toilet (yes, with pee once, gross), I found him at the top of our stairs with a rubber ball in his mouth. You are welcome.

  20. I really want to get a pair of Zella leggings, so many people are talking about them lately and I feel like I'm missing out in life. I know, priorities. Jude (nine months) will not do a morning nap unless it's on top of me in the rocking chair, so we've decided to just do without one. And the afternoon nap is only if I rock him after a bottle and then he completely passes out on me. And then pray to the nap gods that he doesn't wake up when I put him in the crib. Which obviously happens every. single. time. I'll get stuff done again someday, right? :/ Also check out Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me Too, she does great Bachelor recaps!

  21. Seriously, though. Your kids are adorbs (Phoebe included, even if she wasn't in the picture).

As for the Bachelor... I'm had it UPTOHERE with Ashley I (or Kardashley, as I say to my husband). My top three: Becca, Whitney, and Kaitlyn. Have you read the recaps on ihategreenbeans.com? They're the best!
