During a nap strike ...
Julia: dials pretend phone to call fictitious friend Hi, Chrissy?
Grace:
Julia: stares at Grace yeah, well.
Grace:
Julia: no, I can't come over because it's just that my mom hates fun

During another nap strike and to the tune of Frozen's Let it Go:
Julia: softly Let me goo-o-o-o-oO-o-o-o
Grace:
Julia: louder Let me GooOoOOOooOO
Grace:
Julia: a lot a bit louder Let me and my blankie G-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O
Grace:

After I found Sebastian laying on the ground with Julia standing over him with a random assortment of toys in a pile next to them ...
Grace: what are you two doing?
Julia: oh! Just giving Sebastian a c-section

After finding Julia's eyelids and forehead covered in black smudges ...
Grace: are you playing with my mascara?
Julia: oh no, I amn't
Grace:
Julia: I was just giving my eyes some mustaches

Out of the blue ...
Julia: So, I was thinking you could maybe lay an egg
Grace: okay?
Julia: yeah, and we could name her Madeline when she hatches

Listening to Sebastian talk about Mickey and Minnie Mouse
Julia: well bash it's not Minnie Mouse
Bash:
Julia: it's actually Mindy Mouse
Bash: ohhhh
Julia: you got that, buddy?

While holding her own blanket in her lap and sniffling ...
Julia: Hey, Bash?
Bash: yeah?
Julia: can you toss me your blankie so I can blow my nose in it?
Bash:

Walking by as I was feeding Phoebe some pureed spinach + raspberries
Julia: oh, Phoebe!
Phoebe:
Julia: I didn't know you liked the taste of garbage

Watching Simon flip through and mumble the different channel names at the hotel over the weekend ...
Simon: the weather channel, and MTV, and Fox Business, and ...
Julia: excuse me, but did you just say Disney?!

In a hospital bathroom stall next to another occupied stall where someone seemed to be having some rather noisy intestinal issues ...
Julia: oh, boy
Grace: what?
Julia: did you hear that?!
Grace:
Julia: it sounded like THUNDER

  1. It is my great privilege to be the first to comment. I need to laugh and man does my sweet Julia help me do that. I love her style, her smarty pants attitude and all of her hysterical faces. It is a deep desire to one day meet this perky little sprite and her long suffering brothers and garbage eating sister. LOL! Oh sweet mercy...out of the mouths of four years olds. Gotta love them. You Miss Grace just made my Monday. Thank you, thank you, thank you...

  6. hahahaha! You can tell her that Grace and Sophie's mom hates fun too. And is it just me, or is the comment about liking the taste of garbage something Simon would say??

  7. She's hysterical! Julia Styles posts always makes me laugh out loud (which I don't often do at my computer)! And what a little fashionista, too!

  8. the garbage comment really got me. and of course no better way to start the week than by being out styled by a preschooler.

  10. Oh my gosh, she's killing it more and more with each passing month of maturity. And it looks like her air guitar skills are also coming along nicely. Sincerely, fellow fun hater

  14. HA! Was Simon proud of her c-section set up?

Also, Julia has way more style as a four-year-old than I will probably ever have in my entire life. Do those shoes come in my size?...

  19. A) I want her style....she rocks the most unlikely and yet fabulously stylish combinations ever. B) Her commentary is always, always a highlight of my day when you do these posts. She is certainly one of a kind!

  32. The poo humor. It gets me every time. And that air guitar!? You go girl.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have no words. She is amazing and definitely has me literally laughing out loud, which is not something that I typically do when I'm reading things! Hilarious!

  34. These pictures. I'm dying of laughter over here just from her pictures! Not to mention her wit!

    ReplyDelete
  35. What in the world?! THIS CHILD, GRACE. Thank you for sharing Julia with us because I know we all want one.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Your inclusion of the air guitar pic is perfectly placed - love that facial expression. I wonder if listening to your and Simon's (apparently) dry and sarcastic humour is catching? Probably.

  37. this was dinnertime conversation in a college dorm tonight - hope she appreciates that someday!

    ReplyDelete
  38. No one makes me laugh like Julia. And I'm not sure if that makes her hysterical or you amazing for remembering, or both. Yeah, probably both. Seriously, the girl needs her own show.

  49. oh Julia, you kill me. Grace this reminds me of my sister who (at 25) got really drunk and was desperate for the loo. she went upstairs and came down again shouting "theres a man sitting on the loo and he sounds like he's really hurt himself!" the poor guy was a guest of my housemate, and was also having stomach problems. SUPER embarrassing

  50. Love these! All of them. All the time. I was particularly tickled by the "borrowing the blankie" scenario. . .We had a similar incident many moons ago when our #3 asked his two old brothers (with whom he shared a room at the time) if he could "trade your pillow" in the middle of the night. Reportedly, Brother #1 (top bunking it) inquired from aloft why he should give up his pillow. #3 said, "mine just feels yuck." Brother #2 (middle bunking it) offered from his sleepy state, "Why don't you just flip it over?" #3 responded, "Yeah, well, I just think I threw up on all the sides of mine."

Um, yuck indeed. But, maybe it's a good sign that these children who ask for such thing have a healthy confidence in the filial love and generosity of their sibs?

  51. Bahaha - the taste of garbage. Way to go, Grace. Feeding your youngest garbage!

I love the pattern mixing! I kind of want that outfit for myself, forget my kiddo.

  52. This may be my favorite Julia post ever. Love that she was pretending to do a c section (future OB?)

    ReplyDelete
  53. The bit about Julia giving Sebastion a c section made me laugh out loud. Really.
    She is one bright kiddo
