nesting, nesting {1, 2, 3, 4}

10 April 2014

Oh, GOOD. Another post about Grace's pregnancy.

Yep.

They'll come to an end someday. Maybe.

Do you nest? I've heard of some moms doing really crazy things. My friend Sarah (no blog! I really wish she'd start a blog) painted her entire kitchen by herself when she was 40 weeks pregnant. I've never ever tackled anything like that. I'm more of a nester-light. I guess. I think.

With Julia when I was around 20 weeks along I was really frantic about finding and setting up a crib (that she never even slept in) and painting her room (again - ne'er to be occupied by her highness) a terrible shade of purple. This was the pre-Pinterest era (praise the good Lord ... I might've driven Simon even more insane than I already do) so I threw some Hobby Lobby flowers in a vase and ... voila! Nursery. But that was it. In fact, when we came home from the hospital all of her shower gifts were still in their respective bags and boxes and we only had the diapers that the hospital had given us. To be sort of fair - her shower was the day before I went into labor but .... I'm confident the nesting bug was not in the mood to bite me the first time around mainly because I was FAR too busy eating ice cream layered with peanut butter. And then another layer of ice cream. And peanut butter. And one more layer of ice cream for good refined sugar intake measure.

With Sebastian I was obsessed with having a clean floor. That baby was not going to come home to a home with a dirty floor which was weird because I never cared before. Ever. Simon was on nights the month before Sebastian was born so after I got Julia to bed (well, after she screamed for 30-40 minutes ... sleep training, I hate you) I would just mop and mop and mop. And I washed and folded and put away ALL of Julia's old baby clothes because I was super SUPER convinced Sebastian was a Vivienne. But no.

With Theo ... I went into crazy Craigslist mode and decided that we could not not not live without a dresser/changing table situation. So I found one, sent Simon to fetch it, and was happy. The morning that my water broke I woke up at some ungodly hour to scrub the bathroom with an entire pack of baby wipes but ... I won't count that crazy.

And now here we are with bebe number four. And all I'm really perseverating over is having somewhere to put the baby's diapers and a few onesies and some swaddling blankets. In the living room. I've been hemming and hawing over baskets and more baskets but hadn't quite bitten the basket bullet when Personal Creations generously offered to send the kids Easter baskets .... and my selfish little brain thought, "perfect!!!"

These baskets trump all others ever. Don't argue with me. I'm counting on some serious long term toddler memory loss to kick into gear here because next year's Easter haul will be about 100% less exciting. Also, I think I picked up a mild case of gestational diabetes just staring (longingly) at all of my favorite candy they oh so conveniently tossed in.

I carefully removed the fabric liners to give a little preview ...

Sure the setup lacks pizazz but the longer I live with little kids the more I crave less clutter and more simple. I have to restrain from donating ALL of the kids toys .... on the daily. Fun mom forever.

And basket number three will go upstairs in our room to house Julia's growing stash of books that she reads before she eventually finally falls asleep for her afternoon nap. I think she takes three new books up a day which was starting to get a little old every night when Simon and I went up to bed and spent 19 minutes cleaning up her personal library.

Yesterday, after I brought her arsenal down and told her she could take 3 books up ... she had to sneak one of mine. Raising rebels around here.

So I'd love to hear any nesting stories. Maybe they'll spur me to get my bottom in gear and clean out the hall closet that requires one hand to open the door and the other to shield your head in the event that something comes flying out - because something always does.

Give them to me. Please. I just found out Simon's flight home is canceled (not enough fists to shake in the air) so I've got another long night of internet to scour .... let's make it interesting. Or as interesting as feathers can be.

OR - how do you do Easter baskets? Or do you at all? We've never done them but we always did them growing up. Simon didn't .... we've got traditions and memories to make around here and I'm sure you've got some great ideas to thieve.

  1. I did ALL the laundry. Like a load everyday. Our towels were hotel fresh without the whole 'hang up says I'll use it another day" thing because... they were used. So I could wash

  2. All the ice cream eating, none of the nesting. Ever. I feel kind of bad about it, but I'm such a whale by the bitter end that I don't want to do anything except sit around doing nothing!

  3. With my first, we moved 3 weeks before she was born, so I didn't have much nesting crazy--it was all stuff that was rationally necessary. Last time, though? Cray. There was one day late in the third tri when I was basically convinced the world would grind to a halt if I didn't disassemble both my knife block and toaster and thoroughly scour them. Pay no attention to the dust bunnies in the bedroom or the mountain of laundry; those toast crumbs were not to be tolerated another moment. It was an all-consuming compulsion. Wish I could channel some of that "gotta clean it now!!" energy in my housekeeping on the daily.

  4. Yeah. Um. Never happened for me. I did have this really bizarre dream one night about Austin's nursery. We were going to just leave the room as it was when Cody was a baby and then one night I dreamed a room with a train theme based on the verse, "train up a child in the way he should go". I was on strict bedrest due to preterm labor so my mom and husband did all the painting and even found the exact train border I had seen in my dream. Also pre-pinterest so it was just me and my crazy imagination telling them where to put things while I laid on the floor watching.

  5. I scrubbed my kitchen floor a lot but mostly because my son was breech and I was trying to flip him. I also had to make sure both of our cars were spotless. That was an imperative.

  6. Vacuuming, I couldn't stop vacuuming! Only with my first but I swear I would drop things on the floor on purpose just to pull the vacuum out! When I started having contractions? Vacuuming. I think I did more harm than good to the carpet. Other two kids...nesting was left to the birds only.

  7. With #1, I organized my husband's office while he was at class (law school). This included a trip to the container store, new bookshelves (which I assembled) and lots of bertucci's pizza. #2 was born 3 weeks early, so I didn't really have time to nest. #3, I decided that when I was on "bedrest" the week before she was born, it was time for me to remove every spot from our carpet, and vacuum so much that I broke the vacuum cleaner.

  8. Though I have gestated all of nothing I nest on a very regular basis. I full imagine pregnancy will be the least productive phase of my life.

Growing up our Easter baskets always house a new swimsuit, beach towel, summer sandals, and summer attire. So everything we needed and my Mom picked up last season on clearance. Trickery.

  9. She's got some quality reading material there... Eric Carle and what appears to be a mother's prayer manual!

  10. Well, I got REALLY into nesting around like.....22 weeks? Kinda early, right? Anyways, that was the week the baby's nursery HAD to come into existence and it HAD to be painted, and yes I did it all by myself. With some crazy expensive paint that was prego-safe. I also baked like a total fiend (but then surprisingly didn't have much interest in eating what I made) so my husband put a stop to that real quick because he was pretty afraid he was going to gain all my pregnancy weight.

  11. This is so embarrassing, but...mousetraps. Between baby #1 and baby #2 we developed a bit of a mouse problem (all those baby crumbs). But I couldn't bring myself to set traps, because those whiskery little critters were so. darn. cute. But when I hit 30 weeks, I was like, "I CANNOT BRING A NEWBORN HOME TO AN APARTMENT INFESTED WITH DISEASED RODENTS." (Not sure where this maternal instinct was at regarding the oldest.) So about 10 *snaps* later, problem solved.

  12. With jasper no nesting, with tindra I decided the bathtub needed to be scrubbed with bleach the week before she was born. I of course don't ever have bleach at home so while jasper was at preschool I scrubbed that tub for two hrs... Pissing drew off since apparently preggos shouldn't be inhaling bleach.. We do Easter baskets and then a little Easter egg hunt in our yard

  13. The simplicity thing, I totally get it! I am the same way. I used to hate getting rid of anything and now I am constantly looking for things to get rid of. Kids come with WAY too much clutter and STUFF

  14. Nesting: with Easton the nursary had to be cleaned about 5 times a day. The bath had to be spotless in case I needed to labor in it before heading to the hosp. The diaper bag was LOADED with crap we never used. And I needed a haircut stat! Like immediately before I could go into labor. With Hudson I had to tenfold the baby cloths and wash towels every day, clean towels were a must! I also demanded that the infant seat be installed and carried with us everywhere just incase-little did I know my husband would rip it out while I was laboring in the car and screaming that the seat wouldn't go back!!?!?!!!! That's what I get for not knowing I was in labor like an idoit and nearly birthing our sweet quick second babe in el automobile...

Easter: we do an Easter egg hunt and eAch child gets all the eggs of one color (I hope that makes sense but it goes all blue eggs are Easton's all orange eggs are Hudson's and so on for cousins) that way no arguments about the hunt. Easter bunny also brings a stuffed animal and new bike, traditions from each of our families (& bonus josh works at a bike shop sooo) we haven't colored eggs because my children are mess monsters and nope. we leave out carrots for the bunny. I love holiday traditions so it seems like each year we come up with something new!

  15. With baby #1 I moved an entire bookshelf from one room to another while my husband was away. Recently with baby #2 I installed a new kitchen set (literally had over 200+ pieces!!) and her crib (which she also has never slept in!) while my husband was away. I think my husband leaves when I am pregnant so I will put together all the hard stuff... trickery! And kiddos are too young at this point to remember traditions so skipping while I can :) Baby mom award?!

  16. Welllll bc you asked: I painted almost all of the trim and doors in our house and scrubbed the tile floors bc I heard it helped start labor and I was determined that I go when my mom was here.

As for Easter baskets, we do them but this year no candy. Just some books and puzzles for J and bibs and hair things for Ella. We always had them growing up and I really like putting them together!

Sorry simon's flight got cancelled! Ugh!

  17. I never nested. Well, I was large like Big Bird, so I often considered sitting in my inverting mattress with a giant down comforter to be like a bird... and thus, that was my nesting. But cleaning? No...... I knew family would be in town soon enough to take care of those items.

  18. Ha, icecream is so dangerous during pregnancy! And bacon. Those two things caused me to gain 50 pounds in my first pregnancy. No self control. I did clean my entire kitchen the day my water broke. Like appliances, cupboards and all. By hand. It looked great. I get the floor thing. Wih number two I hink I mopped my floors like 3 times a week. But honestly mostly i liked to shop online and not leave the house. Thats how I knew I was getting close.

  19. I want to thieve some of the tradition ideas. And I'm with you on donating all the toys. We probably look boring, but I love me some organized.

  22. This time around with numero dos (two weeks postpartum now) I washed all our walls and made my husband wash the bathroom ones. And baked and cooked the freezer full. And cleaned the bathroom while in the early stages of my three day stupid labour. Still went 13 days overdue!

    3. No really, I was stupid and desperate not to go overdue. Also, I have a small house. Do NOT feel inadequate, I have no idea how people have more than two kids... But of course, being the good Catholic and baby loving person I am I'm bound to find out.

  24. On my mission someone suggested the idea to do easter bunny/hunt/eggs on the Saturday before Easter so Sunday is just focused on Christ. I really liked that idea.

  25. In the last couple weeks before Forrest was born, I think I refolded and reorganized his little dresser of baby clothes like 20 times. Because the baby would definitely know AND care whether his collection of onesies was organized by color or size. And with Darcy, I went into insane freezer meal mode and convinced my husband that we needed to get a chest freezer IMEEEEEDIATELY and I filled it with 40+ dinners. At least that bout of nesting came in useful with a newborn.

  26. Booo to the flight being canceled!

That photo of your rebel is too sweet.

With Ryan, we were in a two bedroom apartment so we didn't do a nursery. I didn't nest for the baby, but I did HAD to wash and iron all of Chris' dress shirts. I even scrubbed the collars (which has not been done since).

With Conor, I just had to decorate, but we didn't have money to spend on decorating so I went to multiple thrift stores with handsy and stubborn Ryan which just shows how strong the nesting bug was.

With both, I baked pumpkin pies while in labor. I know. Loony.

  27. We moved into our first own home when I was 20 weeks so most of my nesting was stuff like - get curtains for all the rooms and install a heat source (winter baby) and fun stuff like that. Cleaning has never been my strong point. However the day I went into labour (40w 5days) I vacuumed the entire house upstairs and down (because who ever does both in the same day?) and simply HAD to rearrange all the baby furniture we had in our room (crib, change table, rubbish bin - because it was ALL WRONG, the bin simply had to be on the right and therefore this and that had to move etc etc. I have no idea if the vacuuming is what started labour or if it was early labour that brought on the nesting...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I usually have to vacuum the van, install the car seat, make a few freezer meals, and get the diaper bag and nursery ready. But not so much with the cleaning.

  30. I got insanely crazy about having the entire house SPOTLESS. My mom even came over and helped me - I mean, we cleaned appliances inside and out, glass doors, all the usual stuff, moved furniture to vacuum, everything. And when I was in full-on labor I was have strong contractions but they were still painless so I mopped my floor. Two hours later I was 6 cm. and in very active labor. Why don't we nest after they are born? Seriously.

  31. With both pregnancies I was adamant about having the house clean but one thing always sticks out as crazy nesting: cleaning the door frames. I *had* to wipe down every door frame, inside and out, and I think I even dusted the doors too. Who does that? Is there even dirt or dust on them? So weird.

  33. We make Easter baskets for our kids; always have. I enjoy doing it (and I enjoy candy!) and the kids squeal with excitement on Easter morning. We give them each a small gift, which is usually a bathing suit or something for the summer (flip flops, goggles, sunglasses. not all of these, but these are some examples of things we have done in the past.) If it's a year that we have a baby in the family, the baby gets a small something that is age appropriate like a paci or a few jars of baby food for an older babe (Fun, I know!). We do put candy in the baskets (except for baby's). Not a ton, and it increases with age. I'm all for healthy eating and limiting the amount of pure sugar kids eat, but I'm more about moderation. I think it's a fun treat for them. That said, I don't think it's necessary, but it's been fun for us.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, and the small gift is always something that I would have to buy for them by the summer, anyway. So really, it's not much of a "gift" for them. Ha! But they haven't noticed that. Don't tell!

  34. I never nested. Three pregnancies. Three past due babies. No nesting. I feel a bit defective. Apparently my aversion to housecleaning can overcome crazy pregnant hormones??

    ReplyDelete
  35. Seriously did not have one ounce of nesting or cleaning with baby #1 and none so far with baby #2 either (but I'm only halfway there, so that could change). For me, nesting seems like a mystical made up thing. But then again, my husband thinks car sickness is a mystical made up thing and I can definitely testify that it is not.

We don't do Easter baskets. My parents didn't do them for us growing up because they thought it detracted from the real meaning of Easter (plus they didn't think we needed more junk). We did (and still do) an egg hunt and general candy / fattification but always on the day before Easter so actual Easter is all about the resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Never nested - too lazy obviously! I have baked a lot when nursing both my boys as I was always craving sugar as they sucked the lifeblood out of me. Easter wise, my kids get to go on an Easter hunt for a few small eggs to put in any old vessel and they get a new pair of winter pjs (we're Southern Hemisphere) and a new book.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I had major nesting with my first child. Like I filled our pantries and cupboards full of all the toilet paper and paper towels I could fit in there. Basically, I bought enough grocery supplies to get me through in case I never left the house again...ever...(or at least for a few months). I was a little cray cray. And I was a major cleaner too.

In terms of Easter baskets, I LOVE them! I don't really go on and on about an Easter Bunny and they don't go see the Easter Bunny at the mall...they just simply get a little basket of goodies at their door when they wake up. My 5 year old (the oldest) thinks it's Peter Cottontail from the Beatrix Potter books. I'm cool with that. Our kids know the real reason behind Easter and Christmas, so we've been ok with letting their little imaginations indulge a little with Santa Man and the Bunny. We usually put one chocolate bunny and a set of peeps in each because that's just sort of a right of passage as a child. Then a puzzle and book in each. Lastly, some little toy. For my son, it might be two or three little $1 matchbook cars. For my daughters, either some play jewelry or I might put a little plush lamb in my younger daughters basket (she has an obsession with lambs).
And my kids love egg hunts. They don't care if there is anything in them. So, for days, they will just hide plastic eggs over and over again for each other and have egg hunts. It's super cute.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Other than my daughter's nursery, no nesting. The handful of friends with other babies were going crazy with bottle washing and meal prep. Want to know my meal prep? Trader Joe's. Stocked up on the quickest and easiest of dinner ideas and theee end. Did some basics like grabbing extra toilet paper and paper towels- those two things turned out to be genius. Next child, I'm saving my pennies for someone else to come do 2 deep cleans of my house- one right before the babe, the other 6 months after. I am convinced it will be worth it.
As for Easter- we had baskets growing up. They were small, not fancy. Just a few treats. And it was never an Easter Bunny thing. Easter was about Jesus and church. I'm pretty sure we knew it was our parents who bought us the treats. And my grandmother was convinced that every Easter we had to do an egg hunt (with real eggs! that she dyed herself!). Sweet memories though.

  39. With Jones I had over 2 weeks worth of meals in the freezer. And we didn't even really use them because apparently I felt like cooking after he was born?

Jones saw that picture of Julia and said, "HEY! My friend Julia has the same books as me!" He's a big fan of Brown Bear and Hungry Caterpillar. Nightly reads over here.

  40. I painted the baby nursery ALONE at 40 weeks along with my son. Tackling the trim with extreme perfection. Then to add to it an outdoor mural on one wall. Because I had not done enough. Crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not so much with the nesting. I kept waiting for it to kick in, but it was more "oh my word, I need to have this and this and this clean" but there was no way I would have energy for any of it. And then I would have panic attacks about it. SUPER FUN.

I guess with this one I am nesting a bit more. I had to had to had to clean all the carseats (including using an old toothbrush to try to get the crumbs out of the crevices) and the van. Once that was done, things slowed down a bit. Finally got around to washing her coming home outfit. Don't even really have clothes for her to wear besides that as I plan to steal her brothers' white onesies and more gender neutral sleepers, but I haven't had the time/energy/what have you to go through the totes and pick clothes out.

So yeah, no super nesting over here.

    ReplyDelete
  42. When I was pregnant with my Sebastian I had no idea what nesting was. I kept asking my mom and she said,"you'll know."

My husband found me scrubbing the kitchen floor with his toothbrush at 2am. On my hands and knees at 8 months pregnant.

I haven't done an Easter basket for my 3 yr old yet. Slacker mom over here. But those baskets are cute! Maybe this is the year!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Haha with our fourth I did exactly the same thing as you - got baskets! :) Worked a treat. I desperately wanted a changing table but it wouldn't fit in our bedroom (where we store the small babies), so baskets it was!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hmm . . . with my first I recall moving the refrigerator at 7 months (just sliding it on the floor, but still) so I could clean the coils. This actually required screwdrivers and pliers and was much more involved than I had anticipated.

With my second, we had to clean out an old office/junk room and make it into a bedroom for the first boy to vacate the nursery. I counted: we had to move eleven pieces of furniture--including four full bookcases--to make it happen. Not recommended for eight months pregnant, but I was driven.

  46. I was in the middle of freezer cooking when I went into labor with my second. Left the big pot of chicken cacciatore on the stove top. I think my mother in law packed it up for me. #6 I was changing all the dead light bulbs when my water broke

  47. I obsessed over the carseat. My in-laws offered to buy it but they are notorious procrastinators so every night in bed I would glare at my husband and ask when the carseat was coming, did they order it yet, did they send it, have you received tracking information WHERE IS THE CARSEAT THE BABY COULD COME AT ANY MINUTE. Well, the baby came a month early and they hadn't sent a carseat yet so a friend loaned us one and they bought one when they came to meet him.

Also, the day before he was unexpectedly born I decided to run every errand ever. I spent a full eight hours driving all over Houston going to various baby stores, consignment shops, and grocery stores. Then that night, husband and I went on a spontaneous date to the asian market. I don't regret it - it was like my farewell to solo errands.

  48. I have that Mother's Manual prayer book! My MIL gifted it to me when I was preg with my twins. It was my husband's grandmother's, printed in 1941. I love it. My kids steal mine too if I leave it out.

I didn't nest with my twins b/c my main focus was keeping them in utero as long as possible. So I just stayed on the couch with a bowl of ice cream perched on my big belly as much as possible (they were my 1st pregnancy so I didn't have any other little ones to chase). I guess it worked b/c I carried identical (to use the OB/GYN lingo "mono/di twins" -- Simon might have heard that phrase once or twice :) twins to 36 weeks and they were almost 6 lbs a piece!

  49. I have four kids and I am the worst nester on the planet. The things I want to do involve ripping up floors and redoing plumbing. Way too expensive and time consuming for the last month of pregnancy. I love the baskets. And I support throwing all of the toys away. Bad mom here!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh nesting- I become the most psycho lunatic on the planet. I am 32 weeks and I need help. So far I have COMPLETELY cleaned the master, my daughter's room, the kitchen, hallway, and dining room. At this point only living room and baby's new nursery remain. And when I say completely clean, I mean remove everything, vacuum and wipe down the ceiling, walls and floor. But seriously, I feel like I'm describing another person that's how much of a foreigner I become in my own body when preggers. We still have to paint the nursery and arrange things in there, but if I don't do all of these nesting things I cannot handle life. My pregnancy insomnia is for serious and this is the only way I don't stay up all night obsessing about the state of things around here.

    It's an affliction really.

    ReplyDelete
  51. So, I'm 23 weeks and currently don't have: a sink, kitchen counter tops, a nursery, a crib, or any number of diapers/baby paraphernalia at all. This is my first, I'm rocking this already! We're mid house renovation (aka, cleaning out my late grandfather's antique and "collections" - filled house while fighting spiders and mice at every turn). I daydream about painting the walls, cooking and using a real sink (not a laundry sink) by the time this baby comes. So, nesting is definitely kicking in, and not being able to truly clean and having no room for baby things is...difficult. I keep telling myself, "baby's are little" and we don't need much space. We'll see how long I can keep being rational before hormones turn me into a crazy painting-at-midnight person!

    ReplyDelete
  52. All I want to do is nest, and I can't. We are in limbo and will likely buy a house (like... 10 days before my due date). So I HAVE an Ikea dresser, but have been told that if I take it out of the flat pack boxes, I will be moving said dresser all by myself or relegating it to the next renters who live in the house. It's torment.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Those baskets are so darn cute! I love them. Miss Julia is such a sweaty all snuggled in. SO sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  54. When I was pregnant with my first baby, I thought it would be a good idea to stand on the couch with both feet pushing the cushions apart and try to vacuum the grossness that was trapped in there. And that is why there is a permanent burn on our leather couch😁
And as for Easter baskets, we haven't done them...but maybe we will if I see some good suggestions on here!πŸ˜„πŸ˜‰❤️

  55. I had everything to perfection ready to go with my first by the time I was like 6 months pregnant. With my second I pushed everything off because I had "so much time" my water suddenly broke 6 weeks early and realized nesting didn't matter eventually your get done what needs to get done. With my third I washed the bedding and that was it..lol.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I feel like my response to this is going to fall under the category "Just write a dang blog post".

As far as nesting goes, I didn't really do much of anything with my daughter. I had some grand ambitions of a gorgeous nursery, but in reality her room was ready after she got here and she slept with us for…way too long. So, it was obviously worth the time and the money. WIth my second people kept asking "Nesting?" I was like, "No." Then one day at 36 weeks pregnant I found myself moving a bookshelf, crib, and some other LARGE items around and vacuuming behind things and doing cray rearrangements. As I was pushing a bookshelf(full of books) across the room I realized "Oh! This is nesting." I also made freezer meals both times, but that is about it.

As far as Easter baskets go, my daughter is 2 and a half so this is the first time I am doing an Easter basket. I got her a book and some little kid scissors (that hopefully won't be used on the book), and I think I am going to give her some band aids. That is about it. My little boy is only 5 weeks so he won't be getting a basket for a couple years. I try to stay away from candy, but this giving up sugar for Lent has me NEEDING some Reese's Eggs.

    As predicted blog length response.

P.S. I want to throw away all the toys. ALL OF THE TOYS. I dream of a world without clutter.

  57. Oh, nesting! I love it! Because I get a lot of things done that usually fall under the "I hate doing this" category and be happy about it! haha With my second I took a toothbrush to EVERYTHING. I don't know why. Maybe I thought a good ol sponge was just too mainstream? I scrubbed the baseboards, window and door frames, every bathroom surface, every kitchen surface, EVREYTHING. And with bleach no less. I guess I wasn't too concerned about my baby being born with a tail because of the fumes :) But nesting is usually a good sign! Shouldn't be too long, mama!

  58. Oh... nesting.... we bought a house! in the suburbs! that my husband then hated and made us move back to the city once my baby was a few months old. I also bought a new car (which I still like, thankfully) and a bunch of fancy baby gear I ended up selling on Craigslist. Also, the day I got back home from the hospital with my baby, I realized her nursery layout was not at all functional and I made my husband move ALL of the furniture (including a daybed, changing station, crib, rocking chair... etc.). All the best for your #4!! you have a beautiful family and I really enjoy reading your blog :)

  59. My husband decided to redo our kitchen floor in my last trimester with my first. I could have killed him with all that dust he created. I vacuumed and vacuumed some more.

We got cheap baskets from Target. Normally just small crafty things are included from the Dollar Tree.. And they are normally thrown away by May so...

  60. I literally have given away almost all of the kids' toys. I am sure I have offended grandparents, friends, neighbors, but whatever...they're not here tripping over this stuff. Aint nobody got time for that.
Also, do you like Snickers icecream? That's currently where it's at for me. I just thought maybe you'd like it because I think it has PB in it...and caramel...(*puts computer down to walk to freezer*)

  61. With my first my nesting was baking...a lot. I just needed to have the crib up and assembled in our room by 30 weeks. Looking back, my nesting for number two came the week before she was born (6 weeks early) and number 1 turned one. I teach and had to set up my classroom, attend first week meetings, finish preparing for a first birthday, and do bridesmaid-y things for my best friend getting married that weekend. I felt so successful in accomplishing everything. I stayed up late making cupcakes for the birthday party on Sunday, went to get ready for my friend's wedding on Saturday and my water broke while we were doing hair and make up. Maybe I just pushed myself too hard that week? With number three, I went through a crazy nesting period around 34 weeks (terrified she would copy her middle sister and arrive that weekend). We had to get the bassinet set up, I had to pull out all clothes from storage and wash them, I had to get everything for Easter baskets purchased and organized...I felt like I was losing it. Thankfully she's stayed in a couple more weeks and I don't feel like I'm nesting now at 37 weeks. Though, I do think it's harder to do/focus on when you have other toddlers to care for (I'm on your heels as I approach 3 under 3). Plus my 2.5 year old just had her tonsils out, so my biggest concern was going into labor Wile with her at the hospital. Though proximity would have been convenient.

  62. This is one of the only blogs where I like to (and do!) read comments. Hooray.

Nesting always happens too early for me. I nest and clean until about 37 weeks, then lie around like the proverbial beached whale and everything gets dirty again.

Living in the Southern Hemisphere, we have just finished enjoying a crazy-long summer and are thinking about maybe, just maybe, things getting colder. So, our kids' Easter baskets are starring the small chocolate bunnies and eggs I've graciously deigned to allow, along with a new set of winter jammies, some sort of Jesus book and some Easter stickers. Their cups runneth over.

  63. Those baskets are adorable! And I'm amazed by your clean house; I don't even have kids yet (fingers crossed that changes soon!) and mine doesn't look that neat! So keep up the good work! And those baskets are adorable :)

  64. Painting is my big nesting thing. I think I've re-painted at least one or two rooms with every pregnancy. I used to do individual Easter baskets, but with 5 kids and all that candy, I thought it was a little excessive. A number of years ago we went to a "family basket". There is one large basket in the middle of the table with one kind of favorite candy for each kid, plus a chocolate bunny. Then each child gets a small, non-candy, gift. Much less $$, much less sugar and everyone is MUCH happier with their little gift than they ever were with the candy.

  65. For #1 baby I super cleaned the bathroom and spent extra time washing out and deep cleaning my makeup travel bag? I am 36 weeks with #2 and keep imagining things I want my husband to do, but am content laying on the couch a lot. I have a bruised tailbone, so I kinda have an excuse?

  66. Such a sweet picture of Julia...so sweet. You already know how certifiably insane I am with nesting. Yesterday I was freaking out about the patio looking super ghetto so poor Danny scrubbed it, and now I need to go get plants. I'm currently obsessing too over throw pillows and I've been looking at different ones for weeks, and can NOT make a decision.

  67. We always made our Easter baskets out of paper grocery bags -- draw on the top of a bunny's head with long ears going up to the top cut it out, and tape the ears together at the top to make handles. Then we'd draw on the bunny face. But my kids were too young for that this year so they got big plastic Easter buckets from Walmart which now fulfill all their "sorting random stuff" needs.
