What I Wore Sunday

13 May 2013

Linking up with Fine Linen and Purple.

Julia: let's just go to the store and buy a big giant giant big giant cookie.
Grace: come along little doggy.

Talking past each other since ... forever.

I must confess (Britney of yesteryear, I miss you!) that this isn't what I wore to Mass but it is what I wore most of the day. I didn't feel like playing hospital Mass roulette on Sunday morning and risking Simon not being able to sneak off of Labor and Delivery to meet us and have all three kids wrestle me to my death nor did I even want to think about the possibility of him having to go to Mass after work and prolonging the blessed end to the interminable weekend so ... we went Saturday night. There was a little tiny hiccup in communication over whether or not Simon was awake and getting ready or was (very understandably) sleeping off his Friday shift so we rolled up during the homily which is a low even for us. The kids were terrible and we even followed through with the "if you're bad - no playground after Mass" stipulation which was mostly because I was freezing and didn't matter because Julia just laughed and said, "okay Grace, okay" and Sebastian's has no short-term or long-term memory so the moot threat strikes yet again. Welcome to parenthood.

I took the kids to Costco where they were pulling out all the sample stops, "treat yourself, Mom!!" and I was happy to only fall for a Greek yogurt jalapeno dip purchase on top of the usuals but the chocolate covered pretzels, multiple frozen pizza options, nutty energy mix, steak (yes - ALL the sample stops), and Swiss cheese were all super tempting. I'd like to give kudos to the Costco employees because no matter how harried or overwhelmed I look they never ever say the requisite, "you've got your hands full" or "you've got your hands full!" or "wow, you've got your hands full!" - and are always the most friendly and helpful humans and even when the 'check your receipt' line is super long they never deny Julia's request to draw two smiley faces for her. God love them happy employees - I know I do.

I bought these pants in New Orleans on super clearance from J.Crew before I could get my fashionista bff+e Jessica's approval via picture text. I loved that the bottoms were shaped like calf muscles (because I have none) but looking at them now ... maybe they were on super clearance for a reason. C'est la vainest life.

the rest:
shirt: ASOS maternity (not indicative of my current gestational state, aka: I'm not pregnant)
clog-diggities: Moheda
bracelet: gift from Mary that I haven't taken off since her wedding

behavior:
Julia: C (fought with Sebastian over everything - you name it - fight! fight! fight! but she was resourceful and used my hair to steady herself to avoid a nasty trip and fall)
Bash: F (at one point he was thrashing so hard in my arms that I aaaaalmost fell over)
Theodore: A for always

  1. I love the red capris. I actually bought myself a pair of Forever 21 red skinny jeans this weekend at Goodwill. $3 holler! Matt turned up his nose but I used the, "Grace sports these all the time on Camp Patton. I assure you, they're cool."

  2. Loving the red capris- so happy colorful pants are in style because I adore them and have already bought too many pairs this spring. AND I love your bracelet! Where did Mary happen to track that down?

Thanks for sharing your hilarious stories- they always bring some pep to my days after rather roudy middle school mornings :)

  4. I like your capris, you should have taken my kids shopping for Mother's Day so they could have got me something more like those than the hot pink skinny jeans they chose. Little do they know I will be returning them asap....or maybe I could send to you since there is no way my legs/arse will squeeze into them.

  5. I want a "big giant giant big giant cookie" too!! Maybe I will have to make on for Miss Julia and send it to her. LOL!
I think they look fabulous. The color is really saturated and I happen to love red so it's a win win for me. Yay for defined calf muscles!!
    Happy, Happy Mother's Day Grace!!

  6. See, Costco employees seem to give me the MOST "hands full" comments. Like the one who looked at me, incredulously, and said, "Are they ALL yours???" And Andrew was in another aisle with the other baby so she didn't even see the full picture... Yeah, I wrote a nice ranty blog post about that one :P

ALSO, I so want my kids to buy me hot pink skinny jeans. NO WAY Colleen! Amazing!!!

And might I recommend a little Benadryl before Mass? (Only kidding!)

  9. I love how you grade your kid's behaviour, it ALWAYS makes me giggle! Costco was my favourite shop in the world when I was little - mum used to leave my brothers and I in the book bit and treat it as a sort-of-library to keep us occupied for a while. We usually snuck off and did rounds of the samples instead - the nice Costco staff never ever stop you having more chocolate muffins! (Just wait until Julia, Bash and Theodore are old enough to gang up on staff like that together too...you can practically get a free meal).

  10. I love the pants! And I love that you got to have short sleeves on for once! We went to Costco the other day and they did NOT pull out all the sample stops, resulting in my 10-year old proclaiming that "this trip was TOTALLY not worth it". And I must say, I have to agree.

  11. I am glad that you have a good experience at Costco with kids. It must be different stores or something? I was there with only two of my kids and got told that I could not get a sample because I had to be 16. I replied that these were in fact my children and I was old enough for a sample (cheese crackers for the toddler). She looked at me and said, "Wow, babies having babies". I almost punched her. She followed it with "Oh my, you are married, too". Double punch.

I also was asked why I was nursing my little brother. Face Palm.

    I don't like Costco employees!

    1. oh wow, I'm so sorry! Maybe it's like bragging about your baby sleeping through the night -- now that I've tooted their own they'll say something? Hopefully not :)

  12. Anyone who passes on saying "you've got your hands full" deserves a cookie.

  13. I think that I have the same red pants from J. Crew, haha. They were around $15 on the clearance rack when I found them...still trying to find the right occasion to wear them, but I like 'em.

  18. like that J's use of your hair to steady herself was on the positive side of her Mass behavior!

I need to start doing this for my family...I'm the DRE and we are sooooo obvious in the pew (and all over the place) at Mass each week. (sigh.)

  19. I love Costco for the exact same reasons and no one ever mentions the fact that I take my herd there about once a week to buy one or two items and mostly for the sampling... what can I say? It's my one of my best good behavior bribes! My kids will do anything to go get their samples and 2 smilie faces. BTW, how is it that Costcos all over the nation get the 2 smilie face requests??

  20. Weird ... Whenever I say to a mother "you e got your hands full" I usually say it more or less of a compliment as in "wow look what you can do" ..... Good to know that's annoying. I will refrain from now on :)
