7 Quick Takes

01 February 2013

You know I'm going to say it but I'll let you know that I'm joining Jen anyway.

1. These are going to need to be quick and dirty because Simon and I are trying to put the house back together before Simon starts night float. The kids went on a rampage these past two days ... (oh, alllllllllllll those textbooks organized neatly on that bookshelf? destroyed. every single piece of paper important and unimportant in Dad's desk? removed and scattered to every corner of the basement. all the ill-fitting but won't get rid of them yet clothes I had stashed neatly behind the hanging clothes in the laundry room? destashed and littered the laundry room floor. and every single Nutrigrain bar we have ever fed to Sebastian? hidden and then smashed on almost every sort of clean surface of the house) and I have big plans to make dinner for the first time in five weeks. I know .. busy busy.

2. Are on you Vine? It seems like the general consensus of complaints is that it isn't sustainable and that the feed is mostly littered with clips of babies. I don't know about it being sustainable but I am 150% guilty of being a litterbug. C'est la internet.

3. I've yet to jump on the red lipstick train that went whizzing by about a year or three ago (look for me wearing my platform sneakers and leopard print cardigan in the year 2020) but Erica's post helped convince me to at least try it. I went with Just Bitten Lip Stain by Revlon in Adore (per her hand holding via text while I was at the grocery store ...) and I think it looks ...
... not gorgeous like it seems to look on the rest of the female world's lips. I'm not giving up trendy hope just yet. I'll keep you in the loop ... when have I not?

4. And crazyeyes had to cut her hair out of the shot because her hair is the worst of ALL the hair right now. Postpartum hair is the worst kind of hair. Thuh Worst.

5. Back to first person and a photo of Theo in his almost birthday suit on his one month and one day birthday ...
I know he's filling out and getting bigger but he still seems so little compared to Butterball Bash. Did the month fly by? No but he is our best newborn thus far (which isn't saying much).

6. I was SO excited and super surprised to get an email from Bonnie last night to say that I had won one of her Sheenazing blog awards. ...
Is this a mommy blog? I guess it is. If you voted in the Camp's direction ... many thanks and blessings to you and hopefully you have time to stalk the rest of the winners and nominees because they're all really, really great.

7. Simon just sent me an email and uncharacteristically called me "sweetums" so I'm going to need to go investigate and make sure he hasn't been kidnapped and taken hostage by the pet name police.

enthusiastic wave.

  2. Theo is the cutest little old man baby ever.

That may be the weirdest compliment I've ever given... Sorry I'm not sorry.

And I like the lip stain on you! Not brave enough to try it on me, but you look good!

    1. I keep almost saying that! But I don't want to offend anyone-you know, like Theo.

  3. You look pretty, Grace! I have also been trying to (unsuccessfully) work up the courage to regularly wear lipstick.

Also, I hope that you didn't think I was being sarcastic the other day when I commented something along the lines of "at least you have that great hair"; because I meant it in all sincerity but now, after reading #4, I see it could have been construed differently. Hopefully it was just an unmemorable statement in your sea of comments.

  5. You're the cutest. And totes agree with Francine's old man baby comment.
    loooooove.

can't wait to see how J looks with lip stain....it's only a matter of time before she gets her paws on it ;)

  6. I like the lipstick. It's juuuuust red enough to look almost natural but obvious enough to not look weird. Make sense? Meh.

My lips always seem to dry to use lipstick/lipstain. It just pools in the crevices and then I get all self-conscious about what my teeth look like...I'm a mess.

  7. You look so pretty, lady! I am never brave enough to wear much lip color because my lips are freakishly large and I would most likely resemble a tranny clown.

  8. Your lipstick makes you look even more beautiful. Really, if you put on your "Adore" when you go to the grocery store with all three babies, total witness for life. Not kidding.

  9. you are WURKIN' that lip stain. (which is obv better than "working" it) and i love theo's concerned look. it's so darling.

  10. Theo is such an old man already... adorbs.

Has Theo been keeping yall awake at night? Maybe that's where the uncharacteristic sweetums is coming from...

  11. I like the lip stain!! I tried the same stain (different color) riiiiiight before I started drinking my coffee at work (cuz I'm smart like that). I looked like a sad clown for the rest of the day (compliments of the long-lasting powers). When asked what happened, I seriously thought about saying:"well, I decided to just let myself go..."

  12. Oooh, I'm loving that lip stain. I'm a huge lipstick person so I might just have to order me some. For some reason I never feel totally put together until I have lipstick on. Gonna chalk that one up to my mom. She always wore and still wears the most vibrant, beautiful lipstick. She is also always paranoid that someone will notice her chipped nail polish which I get from her too. Funny the habits we pick up.

What's your vine name btw? I juuuuuusssstttt downloaded it last night.

Oh, and I'll be saying a little night float prayer for you! Do you find that now it's nicer to have him home during the day though?

  13. I think that lip color is AWESOME on you. I don't like the super bright reds that I see people try, but that one is really pretty.

  14. I love msome red lipstick, buuuuuuttt Mr. P is a big thumbs down on the really red lipstick. So it's not much fun wearing it, if I know my other half is gagging on the side. Oh well!

BTdubs... your sweater is cool! Congrats on your award.

  15. You certainly have one cute little man on your hands! God bless you!

  16. I see some rolls growing on Theo - he's definitely getting bigger! And what's with the frowny "julia-face"? Love the lip stain.

  17. Night float? UGH
sending some mommy prayers your way. Love the lip stain- that color is fab.

  18. Your lips be luscious!

    (Is that creepy?)

  19. The lip stain looks great on you. Keep it.

Perhaps "sweetums" was inspired by the same sentiment which earlier prompted my hubby to ask me if he should plan on some special time we he gets home from work at midnight. I was all astonishment because he never asks for it-that's my job-so he explained, very seriously, "Just keeping your needs in mind." Gee, thanks.

Good luck removing Nutrigrain from everything. I made granola last night and from the looks of my house one might guess I made a granola bomb.

  20. Oh postpartum hair. I was hoping you would have tricks. My hair stylist told me to take Biotin and so I started that this week even though I am 18 months postpartum, its still so thin!!

    1. Tell us if the Biotin works. I'm suffering from the same problem (14 months postpartum). Boo.

  21. Postpartum hair is awful. Six months in, mine starts falling out in GOBS. I expected it, since my hair stopping falling out is one of my earliest indicators of pregnancy, but nothing prepared me for the horrific reality.

But my pregnant hair is pretty awful this time around. I'm ready to shave it all off and just assume the Centauri chick look.

  22. I've tried red lips a couple of times and though I dig the look, I must admit it is hard to keep the color on my lips and not on everything else! ;o)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't know where you get off thinking that red lipstick doesn't look good on you! It honestly makes me look straight up trampy. No lie.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have always been fond of red lipstick & wore it a lot in college (in the 90s...which makes me feel ancient). You & Bonnie are inspiring me to go back to my old shade-- Angel Red by Clinque. You look lovely, and Theo is just precious. Virtual high five for surviving your first month with three littles!

  25. I tried that same lip stain and it looks maroon on me, not red like on everyone else and their aunt peggy. Hmph. It looks great on you though! And love your glasses. :)
And I have never seen you with anything but amazing hair! However, I feel your pain. My hair only just recently stopped falling out in clumps after having Ellee. The bald patches that show when I pull my hair back are so chic. Ha.
Theo is so cute. His eyebrow expressions kill me.

  26. i am also trying to get on the red lipstick train (a little late). i have big plans to buy some revlon lip butter in candy apple. (that's right i've narrowed down the exact red prior to hitting target up).

i say it's not all sebastian's fault about the nutrigrain bars, they are so crumbly! two seconds in my purse and i'm eating a fist full of crumbs, i'll never learn.

  27. Congratulations on the award! When I wear red lipstick I feel like a clown :( I guess it is a tricky color7

  28. Congrats on your big win!!
Yeah...I haven't been able to commit to darker lips, but am encouraged and trying tons of new things from the blog here: www.maskcara.com - at least I'm putting make up on now...and willing to try new things!

  29. 2. Yep. On Vine, but not sure what I'm doing with it yet...
    3. Keep the stick; it flatters.
    4. The. Worst. I had to go to a salon and get it medically treated or something like that...
    5. He might just have to be your beanpole. A really cute beanpole.
    6. Congrats times a million! You know I voted for you ;)

  30. Oh sweet'ums.. That's just precious. ;) A couple things to note here.. You look beautiful in red. You always make me smile, and lastly.. Theo is Stud if I ever saw one. He's SOOO cute! How do you make it through your day without dying of cuteness overload? That little old man melts me! Congrats on the mommy blog award;)
