7 Quick Takes

19 October 2012

Joining Jen again. I can't quit her.

1. Sebastian is going through a really horrible hair pulling phase.
Specifically a Julia hair pulling phase. She takes it and laughs and tells him he is being goofy until he starts physically pulling her across the room by two big fistfuls of hair. He has a serious deathgrip and I'm sure it hurts but I'm not exactly sure how to discipline him. Pull at his tufts of fuzz in return? Simon threatened to put him outside in a cage full of Pop Tarts. Ever the logical parent.

2. Julia has started consistently saying "yes" instead of "yeah". Yes, my life is one big roller coaster of CrAzY. I'm sure tomorrow she'll count to 100 and teach Sebastian how to sing the ABC's. Before you go dip your face in a vat full of envy ... please know that she also said something along the exact lines of "bullshit" tonight. I'll give you one guess which parent will be getting full credit for that one when he gets home tomorrow morning.

3. I'm sure you've heard that Jef and Emily broke up. I hate it. The only balm for my wounds was this post that my favorite funny girl authored. Never not a masterpiece theater of comic relief.

4. I really wish I could send all you who responded to anonycray an e-hug or some tangible cookies or your favorite shade of dark nail polish. Thanks a ton. And another ton. You're the best.

5. I've only watched the Nashville pilot but I am already hooked on the show. I love Connie Britton. I don't love Hayden Panettiere but I think that's the point.

6. Simon recently made the mistake of Googling Honey Boo Boo to see what all the fuss was about and after watching half a clip I have to say how much I appreciate Jimmy Kimmel's assessment that, "Honey Boo Boo makes Jersey Shore look like Downton Abbey."

7. Julia's hair is finally sort of starting to grow out
Unfortunately, I think she is one box of chestnut dye away from looking eerily similar to this guy ...
Don't even try to disagree. Girl, you know it's true.

Have a nice weekend. I'll be really busy trying to outfun you, fear not.

Go see Jen for all the betters.

  1. Anonymous posters suck.

I actually stayed up all night a few months ago reading your archives and regret nothing. You've got a tough row to hoe with Simon's schedule and everything else in your life and I love that you can poke fun at yourself and at the rough situations.

  2. THAT guy!!! I can't stop laughing, especially at his hair blowing in the breeze...although the smile is a leettle creepy.

As for anon, he/she is probably just jealous that they can't come up with half the funny stuff that you say...happens to me all the time :) But seriously, love love love your posts and hope you never stop writing!

  3. I got to go read through those comments and punch someone in the face for you. It's all good, I kickbox.

And I love Connie too, Nashville started off great, I just hope it doesn't have to go on my no-no list anytime soon. Like all of the good shows. Sigh.

  4. ha. this is a great post. i, too, am devastated over jef & emily. can NO ONE stay together these days?!

  5. I can't imagine the time it must take for Anon to judge everyone on the internet for their parenting. Are Anon's children being well cared for while Anon trolls and judges and gets all sanctimonious. Grace, you write what I am thinking all the time! My son won't have a bottle in his Dora Trapper Keeper; it will be in his Thomas The Train Trapper Keeper instead.

  6. 1. Honey Boo Boo. I accidentally watched 2/3 of an episode at the gym the other night before I was alerted to the slow 'drip drip drip' of something coming out of my ears. It was my melting brain. In not entirely unrelated news, she officially endorsed President Obama this past Wednesday for a second term. Ahem.

Also, I may have to go to Confession from the rage seething in my tired, motherly heart after reading through anony-teeny-weenie's hit comments. Some people are just so bitter that they have to broadcast it on the internets; terrorizing their own family probably gets old ;) (ten bucks says his/her kids loathe their waking hours at home. Or don't exist.)

  7. Oh my word, I just went back and read the bitter comment. Ridiculous. I wish I could document Piper's early life with as much humor and cleverness--and I'd love to read an account of what my mom was thinking when (true story) she would lock herself in the bathroom while the five of us yelled at her through the door. Anonymous comments=bad juju.

Also, am with you and now addicted to Nashville. So. Good. And I want to hug Connie Britton for not botoxing the life out of her face.

  8. cute cute cute pics and DIED laughing when you compared her hair to that of the No Country for Old Men dude. priiiceless! Isn't Basher just paying her back for all the times when she got too possessive of her own space? ;) they are adorable.

  10. Just taking a break in my grading to come and say: Oh, dear, these were so funny. (I originally typed "funning"...because I teaching the English...)

Thanks for linking to the anon war/slaughter otherwise I would have totally missed out because I don't troll the comments as consistently as I should. I loved LOVED how Cari told anon to do a "closer reading" of "the text." Delightful!

Happy end of Night Float to you!!

  11. Why is it that the snarky commenters are always "anonymous"? It makes me crazy! If you're going to say something mean and nasty, at least put your name on it!
    Grace, I adore you!

  12. Whoa, was totally unaware of the Anon commenter! Drives me crazy. Why? Why be annoying??

  13. Oh my. I just read the comments on the farm post post with Mr./Ms. Anonymous. How seriously ridiculous! I am so sorry- even if you brushed it off (as I hope you did), I am sure it still hurt a little. I love your honesty and real-ness. And there is no doubt in anyone's mind how much you love your children. (And I didn't just say this to get some cookies.)

  14. I hate how people hide behind their computers and use the Internet as a weapon. Does Anon not have a sense of humor?? Maybe life for some moms is all butterflies and rainbows, but for so many of us, it's just so stinkin' hard! If I can't laugh about it, I know I won't make it through it. Grace, I love your humor, wit, and honesty. I look forward to your blog everyday; it's a bright point in my day!

  15. Anon is seriously jealous. You rock with your blog....and I wait everyday for an update.
The dude with the hair...crazycreepyweird...I liked the hair blowing then he smiled and I got scared.

  16. I had to explain honey boo boo to my husband and then he re-lost his hope in humanity.

I burst out laughing at the haircut comparison.....I'm sorry...

  17. OMG! I didn't know Connie Britton was on Nashville. I <3 her! Honey Boo Boo - I haven't exposed myself yet. Cute pictures. :-) Have a great week.

  18. Your blog is pretty much my favorite. I don't really comment because I feel unsure that I have solved the email issue with comments and I don't want to drive you crazy with a comment that doesn't have an email address...

BUT. I love your blog and I think you're an awesome mom. Don't let some big meany get to you.

  19. Not gonna lie, pry my favorite set of 7... I can't pick a favorite! Thanks for the much needed laugh girl!

  20. Ha, my little brother used to pull my hair something fierce. He used to grip hair in both hands and lift his feet off the ground. The only reason I know this is because there are pictures. My dad would photograph and my mom would start pulling my little brothers hair, (there aren't photographs) she said it was the only way he could learn what he was doing. But Sebastian doesn't have much hair so...

  21. I hate when I get all sassy on the Internet, but sometimes I have to. I just got sassy.
