lots of cool

30 April 2012

I found, didn't try on, and purchased this pretty blue skirt at the Goodwill the other day . . .
It was seemingly perfect and thanks to an elastic waist and an appropriatish length it required no alterations and for two dollars -- the blue was mine.

Then I got home and tried it on ...
bleeeeeeeep!
a skirt disguised as culottes.
how very flattering.

(And before you judge -- please know that I have a pair of calf muscles on back order from a reputable internet company)

I realllllly, really wish I could report what exactly Simon said about the awfuls but I like to keep things expletive-free at the Camp.

Next thing you know I'm going to be in the market for and purchase a seemingly sensible floor-length denim jumper only to come home and find that I had actually purchased wiiiiide leg denim overalls.  Just you wait.

  3. That is ridiculously awesome. And why would i judge? I have always wanted to have skinny calves like yours. I can't wear most skinny jeans because i can't pull em over my calves, let alone my thighs.

  4. I don't know.., It's like naming your child Bertha. If your cool enough, you can pull it off...

  5. You and I might be calf twins.

    This totally made my day.

  6. I can always count on you for a laugh! How terribly disappointing, the "skirt" looked so pretty from the side.

  7. 1. I'd (almost) kill for your calves. A piano could stand on mine. Blech.
    2. I think you can pull off the culottes.
    3. Can you alter them into a skirt? I bet you could.
    4. I like the coral and blue combination.
    5. Where'd you get the shoes. I'm smitten.

  11. You HAVE to turn it into a skirt! When I saw the before picture, I thought....she has the best thrifting luck!!! I would love to know what Simon's choice words were...even as a KID he couldn't handle coullottes. One of Mom's friends would wear them in pants version (ask him, he'll remember)---he Couldn't Handle! hahahah. love it.

  12. Hahahahahahaha....day made. I actually had a similar experience once. I bought and adorable "skirt" from a questionable shop in France. Got back to my room and realized I was now the proud owner of an equally questionable pair of harem pants....never worn again.

  19. *Trombone sliiiiide*
I purchased a delightful pair of woolen houndstooth walking shorts with a fly zipper that was longer than my arm and turned it into a skirt over the course of at least 7 months. I now have to wait until next December to wear them. I double dog dare you to convert and wear yours in less time.

  23. Rats! It was too good to be true I guess. Probably too much of a pain to make into a skirt too.

  26. Whaaaaaaaaaat. I seriously bought the EXACT same shorts-but-looks-like-a-skirt deal at my local Goodwill last week! I kid you not. The only difference is mine is green and I knew it was shorts but I made it into a skirt. Crazy.

  29. hahaha! Culottes... oh, the memories. I grew up in a strict no-pants wearing house, so I know all about those babies! I don't care if they're ever stylish or trendy, I don't think I could force myself to wear them again! lol
